Everyone knows Meat Loaf for his iconic hit song “Bat Out of Hell,” but did you know he’s also made a name for himself in the acting world?
Born Marvin Lee Aday in 1947, Meat Loaf first gained success as a musician in the 1970s with the release of the album “Bat Out of Hell,” which sold over 43 million copies worldwide. But Meat Loaf’s talent extended beyond music and he began making a name for himself in acting as well.
Meat Loaf’s first acting role came in 1975 as Eddie in the cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” His role may have been small, but it was memorable, and the performance garnered him a loyal fan base. In 1978, Meat Loaf landed a leading role in the film “Roadie,” playing a truck driver who becomes a roadie for a rock band. Although the film didn’t receive much critical acclaim, it was another notch in Meat Loaf’s acting career.
Meat Loaf continued to take on smaller roles throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including in the films “The Squeeze,” “Out of Bounds,” and “Crazy in Alabama.” In 1998, he landed a supporting role in the hit movie “The Big Lebowski,” playing the character of Maude Lebowski’s butler.
In addition to film, Meat Loaf has also had success in television. He appeared in an episode of the hit show “Monk” in 2005, and in 2012 he was a contestant on the reality TV show “Celebrity Apprentice.”
